For twenty years, I lived the glittering legal career. I was a Partner at two firms, the son of a Judge, and a top-tier litigator across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. I knew the rules, I played the game, and I won.
But in 2009, a moment of madness changed everything.
Under immense personal stress and carrying years of repressed trauma, I made a mistake. I bailed up a client who owed me money and marched him to a bank. It wasn’t professional, and I owned it immediately. I went to counseling, I did the work, and I grew.
But when I stood before the Disciplinary Tribunal, I didn’t see justice. I saw a farce.
I saw five has-been lawyers who had already decided my fate before I opened my mouth. They didn’t want to hear about mitigating circumstances or human struggle. They wanted to protect their monopoly. They struck me off the roll in a way that was, quite frankly, criminal.
That was the day the Universe did me a massive favor.
It kicked me out of their club so I could build one for you. I realized that if a high-flying lawyer like me couldn’t get a fair shake from the system, what hope did the average person have?
I haven’t unlearned how to be a top performer. I’ve just changed who I perform for. I’m taking the secrets, the strategy, and the high-level skills the “Old Boys” wanted to bury, and I’m giving them to the underdogs.
I’m not a lawyer anymore. I’m something better. I’m The People’s Champion.
